David S. Goyer is known for his many works on superhero films, having written the screenplays for the Blade Trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and most famously, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Goyer talked about the Dark Knight trilogy and how DC initially had grander plans for the franchise.

During the interview, Goyer was asked about recent comments by Zack Snyder that claimed it wasn’t off the table to set the Superman film Man of Steel inside Christopher Nolan’s superhero universe. Goyer said that no talks of that occurred between himself and Nolan or anyone else, but that DC did want to link things.
“Not amongst us when I was doing Man of Steel, or among Nolan and myself,” Goyer said. “Chris always wanted to keep the Dark Knight films as a separate entity and kept wanting, understandably, to pull him into a whole DC expanded universe. Chris obviously was a producer on Man of Steel, and it’s tempting to think they were linked, but they really weren’t. I mean, I’m sure one could retroactively do it.”
Of course, Nolan’s films eventually ended up being a standalone trilogy outside of the grander DC Extended Universe, and after Zack Snyders films, it seems like Warner Bros. and DC are less focused on having a larger, interlinking universe than they were previously.

With The Dark Knight Rises having left fans with the possibility of a new man taking up the mantle as Batman, though, it would have been interesting to see Superman and other heroes interact with them.
