here’s what it will be called from next week

We knew it was coming, and here is that Blizzard Entertainment has today formalized the change of name of McCree. The super-fast Overwatch gunslinger owed his name to a Blizzard employee of the same name, who recently got involved in allegations of harassment and mistreatment within Activision-Blizzard.

As you can see through the Twitter post that we have reported below, the one who until now was known as McCree will adopt the name of Cole Cassidy. The official transition within Overwatch will take place on Tuesday 26 October. Blizzard keeps its promise to create a new shooter story arc that sees the character at the center of events, however the material will be ready no earlier than 2022.

In order to avoid other controversial situations of this kind, the company has also stated that, in view of the future, it will be more prudent in choosing the names of its characters and in references related to the real world.

“We will be more careful in adding real-world references in future Overwatch content. We know actions speak louder than words and we hope to show you our commitment to making Overwatch a better gaming experience and continuing to improve our team.” Blizzard said.

We remind you that Halloween from Chills, the Overwatch in-game event with which to conquer new prizes and cosmetic items for your heroes, is still underway.
