A few hours after the surprise announcement of Steam Deck, Valve’s portable console, the first comments on the device’s hardware also arrived from personalities known to the public.

According to the user’s words, the power of Steam Deck should be compared to that of the new generation consoles Sony and Microsoft, or PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The comparison might seem risky, but Durante explained that it can be done due to the reduced resolution of the Valve handheld console (equal to 1280×800 pixels), which allows with less powerful hardware to manage even the most recent games with less effort. In other words, these are devices that have the same power per pixel.
Instead, if you want to go into specifics and compare the various machines regardless of the output resolution, the Steam Deck GPU is similar to that of a PlayStation 4 and its CPU is more or less equivalent to a processor with just under half the power of those mounted on the latest generation consoles. The RAM is very good, the quantity of which is 16GB and is the same mounted on all PlayStation 5.
