The PlayStation Showcase opened with the announcement of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake, the LucasFilms logo appears on the screen and the remake of the famous BioWare game is officially unveiled. However, there is a doubt that many are asking themselves …
Only the logos of LucasFilms, PlayStation Studios and Aspyr Media appeared on the screen … a little known name but certainly not new to the world of video games. LucasFilms is working on its licenses and after announcing a Star Wars game produced by Ubisoft and Indiana Jones by Bethesda, the company is now presenting a third Star Wars-themed project.
No involvement from Electronic Arts and BioWare (developer of the original Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic), the game is developed by Aspyr Media in collaboration with PlayStation Studios. Aspyr is an American company founded in 2005 that in recent years has specialized in porting video games to Mac working with publishers such as LucasArts, 2K Games and Activision on franchises such as Call of Duty, Civilization, Borderlands and Star Wars.
In the console field, the studio has often collaborated in the development of AAA and AA games and among the many we mention Civilization 6, Mafia III, Layers of Fear, Borderlands The Pre-Sequel and on the same Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic as regards the versions Mac and Mobile. In February 2021 the company entered under the protective wing of Embracer Group, a holding company that owns hundreds of studios around the world.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake is Aspyr Media’s most ambitious game, developed as mentioned in collaboration with LucasFilms and PlayStation Studios. It is too early to find out more but certainly the hype is already skyrocketing.
