the code name of Obsidian’s RPG is “Project Alabama”

While very little of the game has been shown, Avowed is among the titles that have captured the attention of Xbox fans the most. Obsidian Entertainment is among the most capable software houses in terms of role-playing games, and it is therefore legitimate to wait anxiously for the first gameplay reveal of this new project.

The spasmodic wait of the players has prompted some of them to go to sift through the meanders of the official website of Avowed, and to make a curious discovery about the RPG. As evidenced by a code string of a clip present on the portal, Avowed is internally known as Project Alabama.

The title that Obsidian has attached to his project could trigger the immediate speculations on the setting of the game, which also presents itself as a fantasy-style adventure. However, it is good to remember that it is the tradition of the studio to combine the names of American states with its videogame projects, when they are still in development. For example, Pillars of Eternity 2 was known internally as Project Louisiana (many were hoping it was a hypothetical Fallout: New Orleans), while The Outer Worlds was born as Project Indiana and Grounded as Project Maine. With this in mind we keep away from possible speculations, but who knows that the title cannot take even vaguely inspiration from the scenarios of the southern United States.

After skipping E3 2021, Obsidian promised news about Avowed soon. Phil Spencer recently stated that Obsidian will be given plenty of time for Avowed to become their best game ever. The Xbox leader has also specified that the role will have a very specific personality that will distance him from Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls.
