the next game will be a new PlayStation IP, not a Remake

Bluepoint Games has joined PlayStation Studios. The news, widely rumored for months and months, arrived this afternoon: the people responsible for the remakes of Shadow of The Colossus and Demon’s Souls, as well as numerous remasters, have therefore joined the same family of Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla and Insomniac.

At the same time as the announcement, a long interview with Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, and Marco Trush, president of Bluepoint Games, appeared on the pages of IGN USA. Numerous topics were touched upon, but what caught our attention were mainly the words dedicated to the next project by the Texan studio, which apparently will not be a remake or a reinterpretation like those that preceded it, but a new IP developed in collaboration PlayStation: “As for our next project, we’re currently working on original content. We can’t reveal anything to you, but it’s the next step in our evolution,” said Thrust.

The Bluepoint president noted that his studio is no stranger to original content development, having already created several for Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. “The transition from remasters to remakes put us to the test and pushed us to the next step.” During the development of God of War Collection there were just 15 employees, while today Bluepoint Games can count on 70 permanent employees (in the peak production of Demon’s Souls there were even 95). “Ours is a seasoned team, on average our developers have 15 years of experience, and everyone has already worked on unreleased content. We didn’t cut our teeth developing remasters and remakes, we have a mentality that is already suited to the production of new IPs. and thanks to Sony’s support we are now finally ready to move forward and demonstrate what we can do, what PlayStation can do. “
