UK launch sales 40% lower than Black Ops Cold War

Despite COD Vanguard’s top spot in the UK rankings, GSD’s surveys of the exact amount of video games marketed in the UK over the past week reveal a rather worrying picture for Activision and its flagship series, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz .

According to data shared by GSD, Call of Duty Vanguard launch sales were 40% lower than those recorded last year by COD Black Ops Cold War. The significant contraction in the number of copies sold concerned both the retail and collector’s editions (-26%) and the digital versions (-44%).

Taking a cue from these findings, analyst Benji Sales points out how the sharp decline in COD Vanguard launch sales compared to Black Ops Cold War was not only recorded in the UK but also in other gaming markets.

In presenting this data, GIbiz reporters recall how all the Call of Duty WWII games recorded lower sales than the modern-setting COD chapters. Causes of COD Vanguard’s sharp drop in sales could also include the upcoming launch of shooters like Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite, not to mention the “indirect competition” represented by COD Warzone and its unwavering popularity among multiplayer FPS fans.
