The historic PS1, the first Sony console released in 1994, had the merit of clearing video games among the general public, becoming a real phenomenon of the 90s. But what are the best games for PlayStation, among the hundreds released in over seven years of life?
It is obviously impossible to univocally answer this question since tastes are extremely subjective, but we can rely on the Metascore of the best PS1 games to understand which are those titles that critics have rewarded more than others. In first place we find Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 by Activision (Metascore 98/100) released in 2000 and capable of making skateboarding games very popular. Thanks to a very fun arcade gameplay but also to a screaming soundtrack and a state-of-the-art technical sector for a 32-bit console.
Second place for Tekken 3 (96/100), the famous Namco fighting game debuted in the arcade in 1997 and then arrived on PlayStation the following year, enjoying enormous success and being acclaimed as one of the best games of all time. On a par we find Gran Turismo 6 (96/100) followed by Final Fantasy IX, Chrono Cross and Metal Gear Solid all with a Metascore of 94/100.
Among the titles with a score equal to or higher than 9/10 we also find WipEout 3, Gran Turismo 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy VII, Medal of Honor, PaRappa The Rapper, Spyro 3 Year of the Dragon, Tomb Raider , Resident Evil, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped, Ape Escape and Siphon Filter. Do you know how many games came out for the first PlayStation? Almost 8,000 titles!
