Originally scheduled for December 2021, the long-awaited Dying Light 2 will arrive on February 4, 2022 on PC, Switch via the cloud, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One. The extra time was used by the developers to further refine their open world survival horror which aims to improve the predecessor in every respect.
And as it emerged from our test of Dying Light 2, the new chapter of the series seems to respect its ambitions and is already very promising. But is there a risk that it may be postponed again? Well, according to the words of Tymon Smektala, lead game designer under Techland, there is no possibility that the work can go into a further postponement. “The game will be released in February of next year, that’s the goal we have worked on and focused on. So there is absolutely zero chance that it will be postponed”, assures Smektala speaking to MP1st.
The designer then focused on the reasons that led to the previous postponement, related not only to the difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic: “When you work on a non-linear game and want to perfect it, at that moment you are not improving a single game, but many more at the same time. Because that same title can have so many variations, and some of these can be so drastically different from each other that you are forced to do not only a thousand checks, but a thousand checks multiplied for each of the variables within the production “.
Another reason that prompted Techland to take months of extra development is also connected to the expectations to be respected given the welcome received from the first chapter: “The first Dying Light – continues Smektala – was a great success. Not for what the media have said about it, but for how the players have accepted, appreciated and loved it. I think we have one of the most active and heartfelt communities, and honestly the pressure was much stronger than the predecessor because we realized we could not disappoint our fans “.
The new episode of the brand will also boast an exceptional guest star: actress Rosario Dawson talked about herself in the latest video diary of Dying Light 2, and there is a lot of curiosity to find out what will be the path that her character, Lawan , will follow within the game.
